In 1981, Reverend Harold Storm recognized that wonderful things happened when horses and people with disabilities were brought together. Pastor Storm's vision grew into a ministry at the Woodlands Lutheran Camp in Montverde. Over the years, the program became more professional and obtained training and certification for the volunteer instructors through CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association). HeRD grew into a therapeutic riding program, and riders began receiving further benefits from their weekly sessions.
After the closing of Woodlands Lutheran Camp in December 2005, HeRD became a 501(c)3 corporation and moved to our present location south of Clermont. We currently provide group and private therapeutic riding lessons. We also offer riding lessons for siblings of the therapeutic students and other able-bodied riders.
The majority of our riders come from Lake County, but we also serve riders from Orange, Osceola and Polk Counties.
